Have you heard of Sora? Yup, the OpenAI version of video-generation from text. OpenAI has made a deal with the Tribeca Film Festival where they will showcase five shorts made using Sora. It is not yet been announced when Sora would be available to the masses. I too, wanted to make one short. At least one. What about you? Anyway, Sora is not alone. She got a rival. Kling. What does it mean?
What does Sora mean? Hmm, we will have another article on the origin of names. Ok, so where were we? Ah Kling. Kling is a cool video generation model built by Kuaishou, a Chinese video platform. There’s ‘ai’ in Kuaishou. Was it intentional or just part of the name? The good thing about Kling is that it is available to users through a waitlist at least. I must confess, this waitlist thing builds up the hype in any new product. It makes you feel special for getting hold of something limited. Eventually, it will be released, but will it be available to the West? We have no idea if they have plans to release outside China.
The videos generated so far are breathtaking. We have embedded few of my favourites. Let me describe, for embedded videos can’t be trusted as it could be broken links in the future.
The first on our list is a mesmerizing view of all sorts of seasons while travelling on a train. The train journey takes you through a 120s trip across a sunny landscape, past blooming spring flowers, snowy winter fields, rainy cities, cool beaches and lakes.

There are few others too, a child cycling and a blue parrot. The latter is so realistic that it’s difficult to differentiate if it is an actual shot or an AI-generated shot. We focus on the current leaders, Google, OpenAI, Microsoft etc, but there are several others out there who are also in the race. This means healthy competition in terms of improvement and pricing models. Hope, all of them are regulated.
