A video claiming to be from a startup, BrainBridge, has become viral. It shows an animated video discussing a concept that uses AI for face and head transplants. Yeah, you read it right. I too spilled my coffee. With so much advancements in these fields of AI and robotics, any fake stories could make you believe anything.
However, thanks to TechnologyReview website, it is fake. There is no such startup. In fact, this was made by Hashem Al-Ghaili, a Yemini film director and a science communicator. Some of the audience, were smart to understand that this could never be possible. Can medical not advance so much in maybe another 100 years that it could defy death. The concept talks about transplanting head from a coma patient to a brain dead but healthy young body. With precision and speed under varying temperatures, instruments and technology the neurons could manage to bring the person to life.
There are companies that promote anti-aging research. One of them, Insilco Medicine, whose founder, Alex Zhavoronkov, posted this video on the LinkedIn. So, there are supporters for such experiments. The question is how long? Or first, is it even possible? One of the users ridiculed this by saying that no surgery is possible to rejoin a severed spinal injury within the same individual, let alone different individuals.
So, let’s not believe such news. These are all just some concept but they face a lot of technical challenges. This challenges maybe beyond the power of AI. At least for now.
