Spread the love

Did you buy Reddit shares recently? Well, it went up by 10-12% or more on Thursday (16th May) after company announced a deal with OpenAI.

So, Reddit has agreed to share its content with the AI company that should probably help in training its models. Reddit had previously partnered with Alphabet (Google) to share its content. This was in February. So yeah, OpenAI is not alone.

On Thursday, Sony had sent letters, not love, but something more serious, to the leading AI companies which I guess it goes something like this, “Hey, did you guys by any chance happen to copy our content? I mean our songs are our own, and you don’t hold any damn copyright for it. So better let me know, if you have it”. AI companies haven’t responded yet I guess. Or maybe they are too busy to check their inbox. Whatever? We will know it in couple of days.

This is not the first of its kind deal for OpenAI, for they have in the past agreed to deals with some leading newspaper agencies. Its amazing that these AI’s generate texts without having been trained yet with these platforms. The content in Reddit, is no doubt huge. Apart from great content, there could be politicized, biased, illogical, unreal, fake or simply trash comments too. So how are they going to categorize it? Upvotes and downvotes are not always helpful. Well, training with social media would not be new to these bots, so they may have solution to it. Or else it could be the beginning of the good and the bad AI models. In the coming days, there would be more news on new deals, copyright infringements, cases etc.
