After the recent announcements from the major leaders, it looks as if the world is in a testing phase. Most of the new Apple AI features will roll out this fall. Google plans to release their version of AI in several other countries later this year. OpenAI, the pioneers of AI, are happy with their partnerships. However, Elon Musk is not so happy with it.
Let’s talk about other companies. How many do you know? Recently, we discussed the flopped product of Humane. So, there’s one that we know apart from the leaders. There’s Musk’s xAI. Sure, the list goes on. We will cover each as they start making some noise.
For the time being, here’s one more: GPTZero. Unlike Humane’s AI pin, this has been a successful product so far, winning the hearts of ordinary people and of course, the investors. Even OpenAI, is failing to achieve what GPTZero has been able to deliver. Like the name, possibly meaning ‘Zeroing GPT’, GPTZero was founded to identify AI generated content.
As AI advances, it is difficult to differentiate between original and generated content. Ask your teacher, and she would definitely have stories where students trying to deceive them with generated content. This is dangerous too. Creativity is lost. I feel, young minds are most affected. I happen to participate in a short story competition recently, only to find out that most content submitted were done with the help of AI. Judges could not decide, and they had to cancel it. No doubt, some fictions were beautiful but when you know they are original works of machines, you feel a bit disappointed too. Genuine creators get lost in the crowd. Blogs in the internet have started to lose fresh content. Journalists and government agencies are going through a rough phase because of this.
So many images are out there in the web waiting to be proved fake. Histories are being re-written with content favouring political ideologies of certain individuals. Videos of celebrities are being misused to convey opinions that they never expressed. Images of Pope in a white puffer jacket surfaced last year, which was later proved to be fake. The list does not end her. This fight between identifying truth versus fake had become intense. The point is, we need something that saves us from fake content.
We need heroes. GPTZero team is one of them, who are fighting to prove the content authenticity and have proven time and again to be a reliable detector since their launch in January 2023. They have better accuracy compared to their competitors and the leader, OpenAI, itself. TechCrunch had tested various AI generated content – essays, resumes, cover letters, etc – with various models such as GPTZero, CatchGPT, Copyleaks, and several others including OpenAI. Our protagonist classified correctly 5 out of 7 times. It is worth to note that another model, CatchGPT, came second with 4 correct answers. Sam Altman’s came third with …cough…cough…one correct.
What they do is run your text through their language model (backed by research, trained on millions of data, best-in-town/city/world models, and of course, deep learning) and then tell you what it is – Human or AI.
This is huge victory for humans, don’t you think?
So, when everyone thinks about advancing with AI, there are also guys like these two who focuses on the other side. To the heroes: Edward Tian and Alex Cui and your entire team, thank you for the amazing work you are doing.
